Becoming a Carrier

Why Become a BlueLinx Carrier?

We appreciate your interest in becoming a BlueLinx carrier.

BlueLinx is the leading wholesale building products distributor for the top brands and customers in North America. With warehouses across the country and a strong logistics network, we pick, pack, and ship the most sought-after products on the market.

See the minimum requirements which all BlueLinx carriers must meet below.

Requirements and Expectations

  • Meet all BlueLinx required insurance requirements
  • W9
  • Letter of authority
  • Standard Carrier Alpha Code (SCAC)
  • Use Opendock to schedule dock appointments
  • Utilize the Oracle Transportation Management (OTM) Carrier Portal – required for all EDI and non-EDI carriers

Insurance Requirements

  • Carriers must, at their own expense, obtain and maintain the minimum insurance coverage required by the BlueLinx Legal Department for the duration of their agreement.
  • BlueLinx must be listed as an additional insured on the carrier’s Commercial General Liability and Automobile Liability policies.

Find additional information on insurance requirements HERE.

Standard Carrier Alpha Code (SCAC)

  • All BlueLinx carriers are required to have a current Standard Carrier Alpha Code (SCAC).

Apply for an SCAC code at nmfta.org

Electronic Data Interchange (EDI)

  • BlueLinx supports the use of Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) to streamline and automate transactions. EDI carriers will use EDI to review and accept tenders, send shipment status notifications, and review/approve invoices.

To get started, email: projectmanagement@kleinschmidtinc.com and bluelinxedi@bluelinxco.com.

Kleinschmidt and BlueLinx will work together on set-up, testing, and implementation.

Oracle Transportation Management (OTM)

  • BlueLinx requires both EDI and non-EDI carriers to use the Oracle Transportation Management (OTM). OTM is a robust, web-based system that enables BlueLinx and carrier partners to collaborate efficiently and transparently.

Carriers use the OTM to review and accept tenders, submit spot bids, send shipment status notifications, and review/approve invoices.

OTM access is set up upon approval as a BlueLinx carrier.

OpendockTM

  • Opendock is an online appointment scheduling system that connects shippers, carriers, and receivers on a single platform, allowing for streamlined scheduling of inbound appointments for Bluelinx branch warehouses.
